Bath Water Filter
The bath water filter is becoming increasingly popular, as we become more aware of the health risks associated with chlorine in our water supply. You can actually absorb more chlorine from one bath or shower than you ingest from all the water you drink all day. The purpose of putting chlorine into our tap water is to kill living organisms that are harmful to us if we ingest or inhale them. When we drink, absorb, or inhale water with chlorine in it, it in turn kills some part of us! We don't use chlorine because it is the safest or even the most effective means of disinfection, but we use chlorine because it's the cheapest. Hence the need for a bath tub water filter. According to the US Council of Environmental Quality, the cancer risk among people drinking and absorbing chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine". Why is bathing in chlorinated water so bad? - A warm bath opens the pores of the skin and allows a high rate of absorption of chlorine and other chemicals.
- The steam we inhale while bathing can contain up to 20 times the level of chlorine and other synthetic chemicals than tap water due to the fact that these chemicals vaporize at a lower temperature and at a much faster rate than water.
 - Inhalation of chlorine and chemical vapors is known to be a strong irritant to the tissues in our lungs and a suspected cause of asthma and bronchitis.
- The inhaled chemicals enter directly into our bloodstream and have magnified adverse effects as compared to ingested chemicals that are partially filtered out by the liver and kidneys.
- Chlorine attacks the skin and dries it out.
- Chlorinated water can also irritate the eyes, leaving them red, itchy and burning.
- The longer the shower, the greater concentration of chlorine gas in the air we breathe.
A bath water filter will eliminate or greatly reduce these symptoms, making bath time fun and safe again for the whole family. Different types of filter media may be used in bath water filters. Depending on the manufacturer, the bath ball filter contains KDF media with copper-zinc filaments and crystal quartz, as well as a combination of KDF and GAC media.
Another relatively new product very similar to the bath water filter, that is designed to neutralize chlorine and chloramines in your bath or spa water, is the Vitamin C bath water dechlorinator tablet. These tablets are made up of ascorbic acid, citric acid and sodium bicarbonate and dechlorinate your bath. The benefits of a bath filter are very obvious, once we realize that more chemicals enter our body through skin absorption and inhalation of steam while showering and bathing than do from drinking water. So next time you decide to have a long, relaxing soak in the bath with the candles glowing and soothing music playing in the background, simply use your bath filter and make your bath experience the best it can be.
